Introducing Forgotten Moments in Free Will Baptist History

As longtime readers of the Forum will know, history is an important part of what we do. History is valuable for countless reasons, not least of which because it gives us a window into how the world we inhabit came to be. Some of the Forum contributors are historians by training, but all of us are committed to historical inquiry. It is not merely an intellectual endeavor or pursuit but also a spiritual one.

In September, we have decided to revisit some forgotten or little known moments in Free Will Baptist history. We’ve invited two Free Will Baptist historians, Robert Picirilli and Eric Thomsen, to lend their minds to this project. Additionally, Phillip Morgan, history program coordinator at Welch College, is sharing more of his excellent research of some little known primary sources. Jackson Watts is finishing out the month by reminding readers of a historical tragedy local to his place of ministry.

We pray that these four essays prove to benefit you the reader, especially if you are a Free Will Baptist. We believe these subjects will help us all gain a deeper appreciation of the past and its impact on the present.
